The Allesley Silas / Coventry City of Culture 2021/ July 2021

The Allesley Silas was a three month project with the communities of Allesley and Allesley Park to tell the story of Silas Marner, the weaver of Raveloe in a new adaptation by writer Alan Pollock. Working with a large cast of professional and community cast and musicians the production spoke to themes of community, hope and home as the drab world of the weaver was transformed with colourful woven banners and fabric flowers that had been made in collaboration with local people as they unfurled from the rig or grew out of apple crates. The final performances took place in an open-sided circus tent at the heart of the communities with thrust seating enveloping the performance space.
