Fire in the Evening/ The Little Orchestra/ York Hall/ February 2018

Fire in the Evening was a concert organised by The Little Orchestra - an organisation that specialises in 'classical music in unclassical places', creating a relaxed, intimate setting for audiences to enjoy live performance of classical music. The design for East London's York Hall took inspiration from the two pieces of music to be performed - Beethoven's majestic 5th Symphony and Poulenc's spectacular double piano concerto - reflecting the glory and melancholy of the symphony with contrasting warm and cold copper tones and textures. The audience were invited in from the cold February night to gather around warm pools of light created by bespoke lighting fixtures to enjoy their meal before settling down under a canopy of starlight to watch the orchestra perform....
